Best islands near India | best time to visit, how to reach, where to stay

Hey there, travel enthusiasts! get your backpack ready for adventure to the stunning islands of India. Apart from diversity, food, and historical monuments, now India is also trailing many countries in terms of island tourism.







In this blog, I will take you to three islands, where we will dive into the unique vibes of each island, how to reach them, where to stay, the best places to see, etc.


Netrani island


It lies away from the Karnataka coast approximately 19 km from Murudeshwara temple. This island can make you remind of love due to its heart-shaped appearance. It is situated in the Arabian Sea. If you are a scuba diver or want to experience diving then this place is just perfect for you. It has a very clean and attention-grabbing environment. From the historical point of view, it has great importance, It is mentioned in Vibhishan Purana that while flying (to save Lakshaman) lord Hanuman landed here in between his journey and made lord Ram idol from clay.


Best time to visit: Between February to June and from October to December


Budget: It depends on what kind of package you choose there. For ex- in ₹ 1,499 one will get a day for swimming including a 1.5-hour longtail boat ride and light refreshments. Similarly, there are other packages for  ₹1,999 ( 5 underwater photos, 30 seconds of video 15 minutes of diving and swimming ) and ₹3,199 ( 10 underwater photos, 1-minute video, 35 minutes of diving, swimming, and snorkelling ).


How to reach: The nearest biggest airport to Netrani Island is Mangaluru International Airport (IXE). It is Approximately, 160 km from Murudehwara, so after landing at the airport, you can take a taxi or bus for Murudeshwara, which will take around 3-4 hours.

 

Where to stay: There are many hotels and resorts near this island. For ex- Hotel Shree Sigandureshwari Boarding & Lodging (25.3 km from Netrani Island and minimum cost is around ₹ 1,609 ), Sai Vishram Beach Resort Byndoor (33.7 km away and minimum cost is around  ₹ 16.815 ).


Best places to see: Areca County, Gokarna, kodachadri forests, and udupi backwater.


Rameswaram Island


It is also known as Pamban Island located between India and Sri lanka, on the Adam's Bridge archipelago. In this talk we can't forget Bridge 346, I mean pamban Bridge, the longest vertical sea bridge in India. The coconut trees, palm trees, eucalyptus temples white sand have always been an attraction for tourists. The southernmost point of this island i.e, Dhanushkodi point from where Sri Lanka is just 24 km away. It is also very important from a religious point of view. It is mentioned in the Ramayana, that Lord Ram has started making Ram setu from this here to reach Sri Lanka.


Best time to visit: between October and February as the temperature ranges from 20 to 30° Celsius.


How to reach: either you can get a direct train to this island and if you don't get, then first you have to reach Madurai from where you can easily get a bus or train to Rameshwaram. Also, you can get a direct train for Rameshwaram from Chennai Egmore railway station.

The nearest airport to Rameshwaram is Madurai Airport, from where then you can take a bus or train to reach the island.


Where to stay: There are so many Dharamshalas in Rameswaram which costs around ₹ 200 to ₹ 300 per room, and the private hotels cost around ₹ 500 to ₹ 1200 per room.


Best places to see: APJ Abdul kalam's house, Panchmukhi hanuman temple, Nambu Nayagiamman temple, Vibhishan temple,  Dhanushkodi, Krusadai island, Jada tirtham, Dodo island.


Lakshadweep Island


In the discussion of Indian islands,parasailing we can't forget this one, which had been recently trending on the X (Twitter). It is now becoming a new tourist spot for island lovers. It is a cluster of 36 islands. parasailing and scuba diving attract the most tourists. You have to get a permit before coming to Lakshadweep, which you can take from Kochi through the Lakshadweep administration office and also online.


Best time to visit: between October to April


Where to stay: There are so many resorts here, cost from ₹ 8000 to ₹ 10,000.


How to reach: First you have to reach Cochin International Airport from your city, from where you can take another flight to Agatti island  (the only airport in Lakshadweep, which takes around 1 to 1.5 hours) and also through a cruise you reach Lakshadweep which takes around (15 to 18 hours) cost around ₹ 500 to ₹ 8000.


Best places to see: Minicoy Island, Kalpeni Island, Kadmat Island, Kavaratti Island
